All of your teeth play an important role in speaking, chewing and maintaining proper alignment of other teeth. Tooth loss doesn’t necessarily have to occur as you age, but if you do lose teeth they must be replaced to maintain the proper function of your mouth. Fortunately, there are options for correcting tooth loss.

Why do I need a bridge?

A bridge is a restoration that replaces a missing tooth or teeth. Bridges are cemented into place and are not removable.

Missing teeth can affect how a person chews, speaks and looks. If you are missing a tooth or teeth, neighboring teeth will shift causing misalignment and diminished chewing capability. A bridge will help prevent shifting and restore chewing function while maintaining your appearance.

How do you make a bridge?

Bridges are made in a similar fashion to a crown. At the first appointment, the teeth are shaped, decay removed, and an impression is made. A temporary plastic bridge will be custom fabricated for your teeth which you will wear home that day.  Like crowns, the temporary bridge is a placeholder for your final bridge and serves to protect the natural teeth and prevent shifting of the neighboring teeth.

At your follow-up visits, the bridge will be tried in and once the proper fit is determined it will be cemented into position.

How do I take care of my bridge?

A strict regimen of brushing and flossing will keep the bridge and surrounding teeth clean. This is of critical importance as the bridge relies on the neighboring teeth for support.

You don’t need to suffer from the problems missing teeth cause forever.
