Dental Crowns | Newark DE
Why do I need a crown?
A tooth can become weakened for several reasons. A large filling breaks, a tooth fractures while eating, extensive wear, and/or severe decay, are a few ways a tooth can become compromised. Therefore, a crown or cap is recommended to help protect and strengthen the weakened tooth.
How long does it take to get a crown?
Making a crown requires at least two visits to our office. Initially, we will remove decay, shape the tooth, take an impression (a mould), and fabricate a customized, plastic temporary crown that you will go home with that day. The temporary crown serves as protection for the natural tooth and also a placeholder for your new crown, by preventing shifting of the neighboring teeth.
On the second visit, we will remove the temporary crown and then try in the final crown. As long as the crown is sealed and comfortable, we will cement the crown into place giving you a strong and beautiful-looking tooth.
What is a crown made of?
Crowns can be made of a variety of materials including porcelain, porcelain and metal, and gold. Every mouth is unique; therefore, a person’s particular bite will dictate the material chosen to restore their tooth. At Chestnut Hill Smiles, we work with the patient to recommend and customize the best material to provide lasting results.
